Google Workspace Updates March 2026: AI Agents, Forms Insights, and Meet Enhancements
Google released a new update package for Google Workspace in March. This month's rollout focuses on expanding AI automation capabilities, improving data analysis tools within Forms, and streamlining communication between Google Meet and Chat.
Here is an overview of the new features available to Workspace users.
Watch the video version:
Custom AI Agents in Google Workspace Studio
Users can now build custom AI agents directly within Google Workspace Studio to automate routine tasks. These agents move beyond simple rule-based triggers and can process complex instructions using plain language.
Key features include:
Natural Language Creation: Users can set up automations by typing commands such as, "Every Friday ping me to update my tracker."
Workspace Integration: Agents can interact with Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Sheets to draft weekly updates or summarize unread emails.
Third-Party Connectivity: Agents can integrate with external applications including Asana, Jira, Mailchimp, and Salesforce.
Advanced Options: Developers can build more complex workflows by calling external APIs and utilizing Google Apps Script.
Templates: Google provides pre-built templates for common tasks, such as getting pre-meeting briefs or labeling emails containing action items.
Data Analysis and Content Creation
Quantitative Insights in Google Forms: Google has upgraded the AI insights feature in Forms. For short-answer and paragraph responses, the AI will now categorize feedback into distinct themes and provide quantitative data, including response counts and percentages. Forms can also automatically generate a Google Sheet containing these categorized insights and corresponding pie charts.
NotebookLM Visual Updates: NotebookLM has introduced new formatting and study tools. Users can now generate slide revisions, cinematic overviews for presentations, and various infographic styles. The update also includes improvements to AI-generated flashcards and quizzes.
Enhanced Meeting and Scheduling Tools
Meet to Chat Integration: To help teams track action items after a call, users can now see their Google Meet in-meeting chat conversations directly in a dedicated Google Chat space. This allows the conversation and project tracking to continue seamlessly once the meeting ends.
Multi-Guest Support for "Help me schedule": The Gemini-powered scheduling assistant in Gmail can now detect and suggest meeting times for multiple recipients, rather than being limited to 1-on-1 scheduling.
Undock Shared Screens in Meet: Following an initial announcement, the ability to undock shared screen content into a separate, resizable window is officially rolling out. This allows users to move presentations to a second monitor or view them in full screen without losing sight of the meeting participants.
New Admin Controls for Gemini
Administrators now have a new setting in the Admin Console that allows users to share their Gemini app conversations via a secure link. This provides a simpler way for colleagues to share AI transcripts and prompts within an organization without copying and pasting text.
