Google Workspace Updates June 2026 Recap: Mobile Gmail Delegation, Custom Calendar Colors, and AI Enhancements

Google rolled out several notable enhancements to the Google Workspace ecosystem throughout June 2026. This past month brought critical functionality to mobile users, introduced new administrative controls for Gemini, and added practical AI-driven tools designed to streamline daily tasks across core applications.

Here is a recap of the most important updates released in June.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Mobile Support for Delegated Gmail Accounts: One of the most anticipated updates this month is the expansion of Gmail delegation to mobile devices. Previously restricted to the web interface, users can now access delegated accounts directly from the Gmail app on iOS and Android. This allows delegates to read, manage, and compose emails on behalf of a delegator directly from their phone, removing a major barrier for administrative assistants and remote teams.
  • "Discoverable" Spaces in Google Chat: Google introduced a new "Discoverable" access setting for Google Spaces, bridging the gap between entirely private and fully open spaces. When a space is configured as discoverable, anyone in the organization can search for and find it. However, the conversation history and messages remain hidden until a user requests to join and is approved by a space manager.
  • AI Note-Taking in Google Voice: For organizations utilizing Google Voice, a new "Take notes for me" AI feature is now available. This tool can automatically record and transcribe phone calls, summarize key points, and organize action items. Once the call concludes, the notes are stored within the Voice app and automatically emailed to the user who initiated the feature.

Productivity Enhancements with Gemini

Google continues to embed Gemini deeper into its standard productivity applications to speed up complex workflows.

  • Formula Troubleshooting in Google Sheets: Gemini is now integrated directly into Google Sheets to help users diagnose and fix formula errors. When a user hovers over a formula error, a new "Fix" icon appears, opening a Gemini sidebar that explains the issue and suggests a corrected formula based on the surrounding data structure.
  • Guided Presentation Creation in Slides: Creating presentations with Gemini in Google Slides is now a guided, step-by-step process. Instead of generating an entire deck from a single prompt, Gemini walks the user through specifying the details, referencing specific source documents in Google Drive, and defining the tone and slide count. Users can preview the outline before generating the fully editable, brand-aligned slides.

Customization and Admin Controls

  • Custom Event Colors in Google Calendar: Users are no longer limited to the 11 predefined colors for Google Calendar events. A full RGB color picker is now available, allowing for precise color coding and better visual organization of schedules.
  • Admin Controls for Gemini App Chats: Workspace administrators gained new granular controls over how users interact with the Gemini web app. Admins can now dictate whether end users have the ability to utilize "temporary chats" (which are not saved to their history) or if they have the permission to manually delete their conversation history.
