Google Workspace Updates February 2026: Nano Banana 2, Meet Screen Undocking, and Chat Forwarding

Google has released its February 2026 updates for Google Workspace. This month's rollout includes the deployment of a new image generation model, expanded Gemini features across core applications, and practical adjustments to tools like Google Meet and Google Chat. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the most notable changes.

Upgraded Image Generation: Nano Banana 2

Google is rolling out Nano Banana 2 (also referred to as Gemini 3.1 Flash Images) to Google Workspace customers. This model replaces the previous Nano Banana version, bringing high-speed visual generation capabilities to a wider audience.

Key features of this updated model include:

  • Data Visualization: The ability to generate clear infographics, turn notes into diagrams, and render accurate, legible text within images.
  • Web Integration: The model can pull real-time information from the web to render specific subjects more accurately.
  • Complex Compositions: Users can generate images with up to five characters and ten objects in a single workflow, making it useful for building storyboards and narratives.
  • Improved Instruction Following: The model provides more precise adherence to user prompts, along with enhanced lighting and texture details.

Productivity Enhancements in Google Meet and Docs

Navigating meetings and long documents is becoming more streamlined with two key updates:

  • Undock Shared Screens in Meet: Users can now undock shared content (such as presentations or spreadsheets) into a separate, resizable window. This allows participants to move the presentation to a different monitor or adjust its size independently of the main Google Meet interface.
  • Audio Summaries in Docs: Google Docs now features a Gemini-powered audio summary tool. Users can generate a brief (one to two-minute) verbal synopsis of a document, providing a quick way to review meeting notes or long reports without reading the full text.

Communication Updates: Chat and Gmail

  • Forwarding in Google Chat: Users can now forward messages directly between direct messages (DMs) and Spaces. Forwarded messages retain the original sender's information and any attached files. Note: There are specific restrictions regarding forwarding messages from internal conversations to external organizations to maintain data security.
  • Advanced Proofreading in Gmail: The Gemini proofreading tool in Gmail, previously limited to Pro and Ultra subscribers, is expanding to multiple Workspace plans. It provides suggestions for conciseness, active tone, sentence structure, and word choice, moving beyond basic spelling and grammar checks.

Calendar and Drive Improvements

  • Gemini Meeting Suggestions: Google Calendar can now analyze colleagues' availability, time zones, working hours, and conflicts to suggest optimal meeting times. This is available for Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, and Education Add-on accounts.
  • Save PDFs from Chrome: Users can now save PDFs directly to Google Drive from the Chrome browser without leaving the current tab. The files are stored in a dedicated "Saved from Chrome" folder.
  • iOS Drive Video Player: The modern video player introduced to the Android Google Drive app last year is now available on iOS devices.
  • Admin Console Metrics: Administrators now have access to comprehensive Gemini usage metrics in the Admin Console. These reports provide visibility into AI feature utilization across the organization, with options to drill down to user-level data based on usage thresholds.
